2013 Student Loan Forgiveness.  There is plenty of money available for the student thinking about finding and receiving the funds from a Student Loan Forgiveness for the 2013 school year.

How to Qualify for Student Loan Forgiveness

The least pleasant part of taking a student loan is when you have to start making the payments. Many students who take loans while in college, have faced difficulty in repaying them, and at times it can even be too much. Loan repayments may take a substantial percentage of the take-home income and this can be more than just an inconvenience. You could try to trudge on and try to get rid of the loan as quickly as possible but you donít necessarily have to do this. The United States government offers quite a number of ways of easing the financial burden of repaying a loan. One of these ways is called student loan forgiveness.

Student loan forgiveness is when part of or your entire educational loan is canceled. However this is not something that just happens. The loan represents a lot of money that has been spent on your behalf and thus there are quite a few requirements before one may qualify for student loan forgiveness. Apart from meeting the general criteria that have been set by the program, there are also a number of tasks that you must perform. These tasks include:

1. Performing volunteer work: There are three main bodies in the United States that are in the loan forgiveness program. AmeriCorps is one of these bodies. Working for twelve months with AmeriCorps will get you 7400 dollars as stipends and there will be an additional 4725 that will service your loan. You could also work with the Peace Corps. Working with the Peace Corps will enable you to help out real people in over 70 countries all across the world. Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) are the last of these groups. This is a private group that works to help in alleviating various social problems such as hunger, homelessness and illiteracy.

2. Another way of qualifying for student loan forgiveness is by joining the military. If you are a student and in the Army National Guard, then you can be part of their student loan repayment program. This has a maximum of 10,000 dollars.

3. You could also become a teacher in an elementary or secondary school that teaches students who come from families with low incomes. This will enable you to have a portion of your Perkins forgiven. Fifteen percent of you loan will be forgiven for the first and second years of teaching, twenty percent for the next two years, and finally 30 percent for the fifth year.

4. Offering legal services without getting any profit is also an acceptable way of qualifying for student loan forgiveness. This is the case with many law schools and the department of health forgives loans through the National Health Service Corps and also the Nursing Education loan repayment program.

Qualifying for loan forgiveness is not an easy process but if you find that it is much easier than paying for the loan, then it is definitely the right thing for you. Most of these loan forgiveness programs are geared towards enabling students, who have graduated from university, to get out of debt while also helping the community.
